General Education Course Approval Process

Wonder how General Education courses are approved at UConn? Below is a summary of the approval process for all General Education courses.

Course Approval Sequence for General Education Courses

Dept C&C »»
School/College C&C* »»
GEOC** »»
Senate C&C »»
Senate

* Once approved by the School/College C&CC, the course originator must complete the GEOC Curriculum Action Request (CAR) Form and forward it to their departmental C&C representative. The representative should then forward the proposal to Senatecourses@uconn.edu for GEOC review.
** GEOC approval includes two levels of review: (1) GEOC subcommittee approval, and (2) full GEOC approval.

For a more detailed sequence chart, please click here.

GEOC is tasked with reviewing courses only after they have received department and college-level approval, which can be a lengthy process. In order for GEOC to review courses in time for the November catalog copy deadline, GEOC needs to receive proposals by September 1st. Please note that many proposals are sent back for revision; this prolongs the approval process.

For your convenience, we have summarized the meeting dates of GEOC, Senate C&CC, and the Senate. For CLAS C&C meeting dates, please visit their website.
